Most recent immigrants to canada are in good health. 1996, infant mortality rate dropped below 6/1000 for the 1st time. Leading causes of death in canada: cancer, heart disease, stroke, chronic respiratory disease, accidents, diabetes. % of 20+ years with diabetes almost doubled: from 6% to 10% <1% fruits & vegetables marketing aimed at children & teens. 13% of canadians struggle to put food on the table. Extremely high cost of food in the north. 110 canadians are dying premature each day. Poor canadians men are 1. 5 times as high as wealthy men dying from diabetes. Up to 40% of adults on first nations reserves have type 2 diabetes (7% of adults in the general population) Aboriginal people: diagnosed 10-20 years younger than the general population.
