Biology - study of life and its interactions. Human biology - study of human body and its interactions and its attempt to achieve its biological goals with those interactions. What is the overriding biological goal of humans: reproduction, survival, adaptation to environment, propagate our genes. In what context do humans try to meet these goals? (changed over time and space so results vary. : physical or natural enviro. Individual - single organism: biosphere- the part of the earth that supports life. Emergent properties: biological organization that is built upon hierarchy of structures, each level of chemical and biological organization has emergent properties. Novel properties that cannot be predicted by the properties of the constituent parts: all new properties follow the laws of physics and chemistry. Entropy - degree of disorder or randomness: more entropy = less energy for organism or systems use, one of life"s basic characteristics is a high degree of order and a battle of entropy.
