HSCI 100 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Medulla Oblongata, Olfactory Bulb, Occipital Lobe
Document Summary
These were the questions we had to complete before the guest lecture: name parts of the brain, and function of the reward circuit. 3)define intoxication, withdrawal, habituation, and addiction intoxication- stimulation, excitement or impaired judgement caused by a chemical substance. Habituation- ceases to respond to a stimulus after repeated presentations. Addiction- pattern of compulsive drug use characterized by a continued craving: broadly explain the physiological mechanisms with respect to intoxication, withdrawal, habituation and addiction. Taking an over excessive amount of drugs or alcohol will cause intoxication. By a continued use your brain would get used to the constant stimuli and develop a habituation, thus moe stimulant is needed. These were the notes during the guest lecture. Habituation- chasing the dragon need more to get the same result, less response to usual amounts. Can take more but might not get the same result. Keeps us from falling over and our motor skills.
