Monday, april 18th @ 3:30-5:30 in sur3310 or sur3090. No leaving during rst 30 mins of exam or last 15 mins. No one may enter the exam room after the rst 30 minutes of exam. Part a - short answers 10% spend 10-15 minutes. B - commentary 40% choose two out of six passages, discussing signi cance. Literature is the question minus the answer (roland barthes). Choose any text and write an essay in which you analyze the central question raised in the text(s). Examine the signi cance of the idea of secrecy in any text or compare and contrast the idea of secrecy in any two texts. You may want to consider the way in which characters keep or divulge secrets, as well as the way in which the narrative voice withholds or reveals info. The violence done to use by others is often less painful than that which we do to ourselves (fran ois de la rochefoucauld).
