Crim 356 - lecture 6 - forensic imaging. 1895 - december - roentgen announces discovery of a new type of ray . 1896 - establishing cause of death & injury in murder & attempted murder cases; uk, 1896 - used as evidence in negligence cases; uk, usa, canada. 1896 - used to examine suspicious packages. 1896 - used in archaeological examination of egyptian mummy. 1897 - authentication of oil painting by radiography. 1927 - first human identification by radiology. 1949 - radiology used in primary investigation of mass disaster. Most frequently for gunshot/any other penetrating injury. For identification of deceased (primarily dental imaging) Mainly restricted to traditional imaging methods (radiography & fluoroscopy) Image of all teeth side by side so all teeth can be viewed. Mainly replaced by ct & mri still widely used for dental imaging (opg) Location of small body parts, eg: teeth. To detect unexploded ordnance or other dangerous objects.
