John hagan"s power control theory: attempts to integrate marxian conflict theory with social control theory. Hirschi says it"s a waste of time trying to integrate theories, because their underlying assumptions are fundamentally incompatible. Says the best way to combine two or more theories into a single, unified theory is to create an end to end model. Structural (macro) theory -> middle (bridging theory) -> micro (process) theory. According to thornberry: the three most prominent sociological explanations of crime and deviance are: A combination of social learning and social control theory. Thornberry attempts to integrate social control and social learning theory.
