New media is a convergence of old media and content onto new digital platforms; it is malleable, networkable, densely stored, compressible, and impartial. It is made up with a network of dynamic links, is interactive, and involves participants making it distinctly new" (in ability) but not for its newness. The three cs that define new media are: computing & information technology, communications network, and content & digitized media (a product of convergence fourth c?). Remediation is the process of reconceiving traditional old media into new media forms (p. 18). Norris proposes to distinguish between the global divide and the social divide, within digital divide research. Some believe the digital environment will continue to reflect social inequality through its characteristic of constant change and differential access.
