The federal copyright act protects books, photos, music, and other artistic works. *only the expression of the idea is protected, not the idea itself. For example: if someone photocopies the text that you are reading, they will be in breach of the author"s copyright. But if they simply write another book expressing the same ideas in a different way, they have a right to do that. Copyright last for the life of author plus 50 years. When a corporation is involved, the author is not known or the work involves such things as movies, photographs, or sound recordings, the period is 50 years. The copy is then assigned to the publishing company. Continue to have his or her name with work as creator. Have the integrity of the work preserved.
