Centrifugation plasma (58%) top layer, buffy layer (platelets and white cells < Hematocrit percentage of total blood volume of rbcs: males: 40 54% females: 37-47% Hemoglobin (g hb/dl * whole blood) oxygen-carrying capacity of rbcs: males: 14-17. Platelet count ability of blood to clot. Hematopoeisis synthesis of blood cells occurs in bone marrow. Adults in bone marrow of pelvis, spine, ribs, cranium, and proximal ends of long bones. 25% of developing cells in bone marrow will become rbcs, 75% will become. Active bone marrow is red b/c has hemoglobin.
