NPM700 Lecture 7: Chapter 7 Resource Development - Chapter 7 4
Document Summary
It"s not about the money, it"s about building the relationship. All managers in npos spend some time on development. This ranges from identifying donor prospects to relationship building as part of the solicitation process. In the current environment, there"s significantly more job opportunities than there are professional fundraisers. If they can, they can"t afford to hire support staff to take care of the recording, receipting and reporting that takes a professional fundraiser away from income generating activities. This forces many npos to rely on volunteers, including board members to provide the expertise and time. Ultimately, this can limit an npo"s growth. Development programs are like any other strategy to be effective, they have to be living plans . A key success factor is their ongoing evaluation. Number of new donors: % rate of renewed donors, % rate of average increase for their existing donor pool. We learned about resource development and its related terminology.
