Suggests that we have averted our gaze from the technical aspects of decision making. Introduced a type of power in which the economy of visibility is transformed the disciplinary power that was once visible in public spectacle is now invisible. Panopticon- an architectural form as a jail or place of punishment in which the exercise of power would be both more economical and effective. Has 2 main features: the central tower, peripheral building that surrounds the tower. Central principle is that power should be visible but at the same time unverifiable. Prisoners in the jail know they are constantly being watched, but don(cid:585)t know w n or w o.
