Figuring out how to name and punish domestic/family violence against muslim women w/out increasing negative ideas of islam. Blood money : islamic ideal that if someone accidentally kills someone, the victim"s family can forgive for a set amount of money. When a muslim woman defies family by wishing to married an unapproved suiter, sometimes the male relatives will kill the woman, and the woman"s mother (next of kin) would be the forgiver . Random acts of murder seen as crime against state; the act is thereby punished. Representations of family violence against muslim women (media) Young muslim women"s actual experiences of violence. Role of the state to protect women. Gun violence ironically not seen as barbaric; westerners are conditioned to view it in a relatively normalized manner (fucked up)
