Document Summary

In the post-world war era, we have been producing increasing amounts of food. Despite an increase in world population per capita food production has been rising. Some think that hunger may seem to be inevitable in a world with ever increasing numbers of people. They believe that if we increase our productive capacity and reduce food wastes we can solve hunger. Some observers argue that hunger has a lot to do with existing patterns of social inequalities not with lack of food or food waste. It needs structural solutions to reduce existing social inequalities. Malthusian view that ties hunger to population increase: Thomas malthus argued that human populations tend to increase at a geometric rate, whereas the food supply grows at an arithmetic rate. This leads to a gap in the long run. He suggested certain checks and balances for population control.
