Perhaps what is most striking about social media is needing to be frequently in touch with it. What is hard about not having access to social media: getting upset, we rely on it so when it is removed, it is disruptive and disturbing. Our consumption interests are tracked and we are then followed with them. Facebook is a massive database of our personal lives. Assange: facebook, in particular is the most appalling spying machine that has ever been invented (reisinger, 2011) In 1980s, only few tv channels were available. Conversations used to be about comparing favorite points about the past evenings show now it is learning about phone apps, websites, and youtube videos that one hasn"t come into contact with yet. We can now watch tv shows when we want, instead of when they"re broadcasted (recording tv shows) Existence of many popular cultures is evident.
