Thursday january 22 & friday january 23, 2015. The studying and the history of popular culture. To understand how popular culture has formed in the ways it has: why do we have twitter, everything has come about from foundations of different things. Or died out: we care about what other people think about us, selfie has a great deal to do with this. How and which historical conditions constitute popular culture: we don"t know about things from the culture of aboriginal/native people, sports, needs to be mass appeal. Careful with what words they use to make something seem either bad or really good. Idea of thinking about popular culture more cynically. Beliefs and values that bind individuals together become naturalized. In naturalizing, ideological processes mask or hide historical processes: cover up how it came into being. Successful ideologies convince us that present conditions are natural, inevitable or un changeable.
