Document Summary

* culture is learned and is not natural or inevitable. * culture is rooted in symbols with socially learned meanings. Examples include being willing to spend more for certain brands, and the symbol of money; if we didn"t put a value on it, it would be worthless. * culture is a system shared by all members of society. We all know certain symbols in society, such as manners. We all have expectations as citizens in society. * elements of culture are largely integrated and connected, though contradictory. Example is how the media sexualizes woman, but then tells them to respect themselves. A community with shared beliefs that work towards meeting their immediate needs. Lavish lifestyle, for the wealthy and educated. Technology making everything more accessible to everyone. Lower quality because there is more people to get it out to, more focused on quantity over quality, generic. For the working classes, accessible for many people.
