Document Summary

Soc104 week 4 feb 2 & 5, 2015. Power relations are more subtle in capitalism than in feudalism: incentive rather than punishment, rewarding system, theoretically more humane, each person has the choice, fair(?, sneaky. Owners maintain the upper hand because of the availability of other workers. Owners appear to give something to workers rather than take: a contract between sovereign people. Exception is with extremely specialized jobs. i. e. actors, mexico city sewage cleaner: the key producer of wealth is the worker. Labour and alienation: naiman argues that this part is worse than feudalism, work is central to life and who we are as humans. Alienation: separation between the worker and their labour and all that this entails. Workers do not have as much control over what they do now as opposed to feudalism. Work is now an amalgamation of micro jobs. Meaninglessness in that there is not a satisfaction of a final product.
