Sex and gender can be powerful predictors of behaviour. Sex and gender can inluence your life chances. Belonging to one gender or another can predict: Educaion, occupaion, income, health, voing paterns, whether you do the housework, whether you commit crime, etc. Gender refers to diferences in behaviour resuling from socializaion. Emoional (expressive & recepive), nurturing, caring, empatheic, weak/ fragile , passive, dependent, indirect, concerned with appearance & relaionships, inferior. Stoic, strong, muscular, raional, brave, authoritaive, aggressive, independent, direct, sex obsessed, dominant, superior. Girls: domesic chores, boys: maintenance chores girls= more fragile =gentler treatment, boys=rougher treatment. Teacher-student interacions; sports; praise girls & boys for feminine & masculine behaviours; gender dominant courses. Blatant and subtle messages about feminine & masculine traits and behaviours. More women are working than ever before, but women select feminized jobs and men select masculine jobs. E. g. majority of the nursing populaion= women (synder & green, 2008) E. g. majority of computer science populaion= men (parviainen, 2008)
