We are immersed in society (our own perspective, but we view others) Sociology has a lot to teach us about ourselves, how we have come to be the people we are, what we value and what we desire. Why are we who we are? critical analysis. Sociology is the systematic study of human society and human interaction. Is systematic because theoretical component and research methods. How do our personal realities connect to larger social and historical structures. Consumerism, looks at recurring patterns that drives people to spending, how is it that we come to want certain things. Goal in soc, to wonder why people do what they do, buy that hang bag, travel in certain ways . Make the connection between individual life and preferences, and the larger picture. Understand society by becoming strangers to it. People adapt into new situations and cultures. (moving around, or change from high school to university)
