Social relationships are fluid; they are shaped by the historical, cultural, social, economic and political variables. Social relationships shape every aspect of our lives. Include formal institutions such as the education system, the media, the state, the police, the criminal justice system. These institutions regulate our behavior, beliefs and values by teaching us the interests/beliefs/values and norms of the ruling class elite. Regulate behavior through formal institutions that convince us to embrace their interest/values/beliefs. When we fail to be convinced by such institutions as the education system/media and act against these interests, our behavior is regulated by police/court/prison systems. On a daily basis our behaviours are regulated within informal society structures. More difficult to identify and critically asses; often taken for granted as part of out everyday lives.
