Planning attempts to bring the orderly development of land through a structured process. The planning act: provides legislative frameworks of planning in ontario. Is administered by ministry of municipal affairs and housing (mah: mah also issues provincial policy statements, which detail overall guidelines concerning provincial planning interests. Protect nature and require orderly and appropriate growth: responsibilities at the municipal level: Run a committee to grant minor variances from the zoning by laws. Deals with the design of the build environment in a city and the use of land (aka urban planning) Help to manage the growth of the city, by designating areas for development. Planners designate a use for every parcel of land, called zoning. Development charges (act, 1997): states that municipalities may apply developmental charges in ways that best suit their local, growth related needs, many municipalities use this charge as an incentive for directing land and building develop.
