Psy505 chapter 12 skinner: reinforcement theory. Skinner"s theory is the most different from other theories (he also discounts other theories as fiction) Tabular rasa blank slate, every individual is blank slate when they"re born and they can be conditioned into someone. What is impt is what you can actually see, observable behaviour (everything else is fiction) v different approach to personality. Very controversial, a lot of people resist his ideas bc he"s so controversial (emotions as fiction?) His ideas are good as much as controversial, they hold up and supported (not as comprehensive as he"d like to make it sound) Mostly blank slates: primarily products of nurture. Pessimistic or optimistic: arguments can be made for either side. He doesn"t think there are any, cannot see an ideal self vs actual self no. What"s impt is the person and what they"re actually doing, what we can actually see that they"re doing.
