Popular personality psychology: cold reading / forer effect (not personality psychology, broad statements that apply to everyone we internalise these. Hot reading i. e. , google to get information that already exists . I like going out and having fun but i"m also equally comfortable to stay in with netflix and a glass of wine etc. (bleh!) The essence of human understanding: literally, trying to understand ourselves and others. Personality theory: personality theory is different from pop-culture personality , study of personality theory is a science. Aggregation how all of us function, rules that apply to all of us. All 5 goals are discussed in the critical evaluation section at the end of each chapter / theory. Defining personality: what do we mean by personality, we might say, that person has a great personality . But what do we mean by that: personality does not equal charisma or charming in personality theory, key factors of study in defining personality, human universals.
