The frontal lobe: either referred to as rostral or anterior. The back of the brain: caudal or posterior. Anterior/ rostral- anteroposterior- axis runs from head to opposite end of body. Posterior/ caudal- anteroposterior- axis runs from head to opposite end of body. Ipsilateral: located on the same side of the body/ structure. Contralateral: located on opposite side of the body/ structure. All senses are contralateral except for smell and taste are isilateral. Language is lateralized, thus the left hemisphere is responsible for language. Emotions are lateralized on the right side of the brain. Motor movement is contralateral (the right hemisphere processes the left side of the body and vice versa) Nervous system: cns (brain, spinal cord), pns (nerves, everything else, peripheral ganglia. 3 things that protect the brain: bone, meninges, cerebral spinal fluid. Meninges: layers of connective tissues that protect the cns.
