Attachment: earliest human research suggests attachment based on needs for safety and security, relationship b/w infant and mother it includes the bond and how much he or she trusts mom, mother is generally the primary caregiver, bowlby: Attachment provides home base through qualitatively unique relationship with individual who best provides safety (mom = home base) Can go back to mom if there is a situation that is nerve racking, stressful etc. Mom satisfies child"s needs and gives security. The security allows for the child to explore their environment. As the child gets older they are able to roam further and further away from mom: 4 phases of attachment.
