Stage 4: formal operational (12 years and above) Positive: masterful observer, useful way to consider progressive advances in child cognition. Negative: more recent experimental work suggests higher child performance on tasks involving conservation, reversibility, transformation, and ability to count, contentations about continuity of development as theorized in piagets stages.
