Harm reduction is a set of practical strategies and ideas aimed at reducing negative consequences associated with drug use. Self directed model of harm reduction: it is up to the person taking the substance how much treatment they will seek. People working in harm reduction must not be judgemental. Liberal and permissive approach- amsterdam: not a lot of judgement and stigma to drugs (cid:862)(cid:272)offee shops(cid:863) selli(cid:374)g (cid:373)a(cid:396)ijua(cid:374)a a(cid:374)d hash. Mobile vans giving out methadone, condoms, clean syringes: harm reduction with vans to prevent risky sexual behaviour, dirty needles, etc. The citizens wanted to take drug use problems from the criminal system, and that it is a public health and social issue instead. Liverpool they would just switch out drugs with the medicalization approach to something that would be easier to get off of led to decrease in crime rates. Effects are evaluated on whether they are harmful or helpful, not whether they are right or wrong.
