Types of psychological disorders: neurotic disorders (related to anxiety, anxiety disorders. More extreme than just normal stress: generalized anxiety disorder (free-floating anxiety) Worry about mistakes from past and future. More common in females: phobic disorders. Having a fear of a very specific stimulus. Anxiety pertaining to be negatively evaluated by other people. Examples are public speaking, eating at restaurant, going to: panic disorder agoraphobia parties. Agoraphobia refers to the fear of leaving home or going out in public. Being scared of having panic attacks so you want to avoid public places. Smokers are more likely to develop panic disorders (nicotine arousal: obsessive compulsive disorder (ocd) Tends to happen in late teens and early adulthood and dissipates with aging. Obsession: refers to the recurrent thoughts or images that involuntarily intrude. Compulsive: ritualistic behavior that people feel compelled to carry out because the obsession creates anxiety and the behavior that people feel compelled to do reduces that anxiety.
