PSY 102 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Contiguity, Classical Conditioning, Observational Learning
Document Summary
We are more prepared to develop certain phobias over others. In watson and one year old with white mouse: Common: more prepared to develop (things that put your life at risk) Phobias can also be acquired from classical conditioning (us) gong -----> fear (ur) mouse + gong (cs) mouse ------> fear (cr) When a well-established cs (1) starts acting as though it were an us, and is able to bring the cr under the control of a cs (2) Example: (us) food -----> salivation (ur) bell + food (cs 1) bell ------> salivation (cr) ( cs 2) red light + bell ( cs 2) red light --------> salivation (cr) (higher order cs 2nd order cs) Note: salivation to the red light will be weaker than to the salivation to the bell. The further down we go, the weaker and weaker the salivation will be. When a stimulus (s) that is similar to the original cs elicits a cr.
