At end of ww2 russia and america are the most powerful country. Had worked toghether during war to defeat nazis. Never fought a war against eachother, only proxy wars. Other countries have a war, either country support either side. At end of ww2, the soviet red army were pushing east from east, Churchill, roosevelt, stalin have a meeting about how europe will look like after war. They agree to let each country decide for themselves. As red army spread through eastern europe, they brought the kgb, and communists. When elections took place, communists won every election, (they were fixed). Americans looked at this and said that they didn"t agree with this because it was not what they decided. Created a policy called containment , to prevent the spreading of russian power. They built many military bases around europein to try to contain their power. Build bases in china too, as china became communist in 1949.
