Document Summary

Steven lukes, five fables about human rights (1993) One one hand, we speak about human rights so much, but at the same time, there is so much. Must define what human rights are and why they are worth fighting for of it going on. Realizes ultimately that rights won"t fix everything, you may need to borrow from all of these kingdoms. Taking for granted, these things are somewhat alien. Collective purpose- the whole does in fact displace the one. A good action is a net gain in happiness. You would never know if today is the day that you will be sacrificed, for someone you don"t even know. No limit for the good of the many. The end justifies the means, however; everything is measured ultimately by that. You may not be happy that you are being sacrificed, but you won"t believe it to be wrong bottom line. What they share, what we are collectively, what binds us.
