Cerebellum: coiled structure under occipital love that is concerned with motor coordination of voluntary movements, equilibrium (i. e. the postural balance of the body), and muscle tone. Creates smooth body motion such as the complex and quick coordination of many different muscles. Can adults and correct voluntary movement at an unconscious level. Has vital autonomic centers (respiratory, cardiac) as well as nuclei for cranial nerves viii through xii. Spinal cord: pathway for ascending and descending fibre tracts that connect brain to spinal nerves: peripheral nervous system: includes the 12 pairs of cranial nerves, 31 pairs of spinal nerves and all their branches.
