Self-concept can change when heath is affected if pt is neatly groomed, consider details if pt is unkempt, hygiene assessment might be needed: socioeconomic status. If basic care items can"t be bought, alternatives need to be addressed. Assess whether the use of these products are acceptable practice for the pt cultural and social group. Not everyone uses deodorant or cosmetics: health beliefs and motivation. Assess for pt knowledge of risk of current hygiene practices. Feelings of disapproval must not be shown from hcp.
