Nse11: week 4 readings: nursing theory and theories used in nursing: Concept: an idea that we conceive (in our mind) to represent the world around us. A general abstract notion or idea about particular things that we see, hear, feel, taste and touch/experience. Critical social theories: theories suggesting that social reality historically produces power imbalances that can be critically examined. Intent of cts is to bring about positive changed in the conditions that affect people"s lives. Grand nursing theories: theories offering a general orientation or philosophical stance about nursing. Hypotheses: specific statements used by researchers to predict a relationship between/among variables. Serve as the link bridge between theory and research. Metaparadigm: a set of concepts or ideas that is important to the discipline of nursing. Includes concepts that are central or core to nursing: person, health, nursing and environment. Midrange (middle range) nursing theories: theories informed by practice and research and offer a general direction for everyday nursing practice.
