Music would be performed in big halls that allowed for dancing. A lot of towns would have these dance halls. Commercially successful pulled the record industry out of the depression. Count basie orchestra was a black band and a lot of white bands wanted to emulate them. They had songs with a lot of call and response. Benny goodman, led the white band, was known as the king of swing. He really loved black music and tried to do it as best he could with an integrated band.
