Document Summary
Mhr 600 week 1 diversity and inclusion in the workplace. This is to mitigate the risk of excluding individuals. However, despite diversity being expansive, it is not without boundaries. If it were to include every characteristic of individuals in the workplace; the definition would lack both clarity and usefulness. There are both primary and secondary dimensions to diversity. Examples include your level in an organization and language ability. (what"s around us) There are four layers to diversity: personality, internal dimensions, external dimensions, organizational dimensions. These layers spill into each other and help determine one another. For example; your age (an internal dimension) may impact your recreational habits (an external dimension). Principles of diversity: one can be diverse at different stages of their lives. This means that diversity is fluid: diversity is ironic because it can lead to stereotypical thinking, you cannot assume a person"s experience because of their identity, diversity must be truly embedded in organizational culture.
