Canada is more diverse in religion for reasons like: Immigration in canada & the demographics are different than those from the us (like south america) In the states there"s still a stigma for not being affiliated with any religion. Important when an immigrant first arrives in canada. Same belief and value system as themselves enormous benefits in terms of their psychological wellbeing & their ability to settle in society: but can lead to religious/ethnic segregation. Bridging social capital: between-group connections: when you can make connections to your religious and ethnic group to the mainstream canadian population. Important for immigrants to develop in order to get ahead in the mainstream society. Once they build the bridge, those are the ones who often do much better in the canadian community. The historical importance of religious freedom in canada. Canada prides itself on being a vibrant, pluralist, immigrant society. Historically, the tension was between english protestant communities and french catholic communities.
