Lecture 3: employment determines the legal protection, social recognition, and economic security associated with different forms of work, people who work for pay but who are self- employed are treated for most legal purposes as independent entrepreneurs. Independent entrepreneurs do not need labour protection. Unequal power in work relations, bargaining power. Dependence on the sale: employment is not personal or private, it is not a subjective choice, employment objective factors. Increase in connection, making buyer and seller, increased quantity. Uber article: they weren"t given rights, they weren"t happy with the way they were treated, company didn"t allow passengers to pay the driver directly, even though they were supposed to. Property and labour rights are also only social ideas that have been constructed: these points can be translated as a clash of rights- how they get represented in practice. Efficiency- property rights: economic theory says these go hand in hand. Equity and voice- labour rights: labour rights.
