The purpose of tort law: tort law discourages people from committing private wrongs by requiring to them to compensate the wronged party. 2 underlying principles: compensation: to compensate the victim of tort, deterrence: to incentives people against injuring/harming others. 1: didn"t mean to kick the ball into your neighbor"s yard but intended to kick the ball, unintentional negligence, basically it is the law of accident, a tort occurs when a person acts carelessly, strict liability.
