Class 1: comes from ancient rome, code based, used in france, most of europe and quebec. Common law: comes from england, used in the commonwealth. Some laws are the same across canada: ex criminal law & constitutional law. Hierarchy of source of law: constitution, legislature, court. The constitution: basic rule for society, including legal and political systems, highest source of law, difficult to amend.
