Most disputes are settled outside of court. General rule any person / corporation. People without legal capacity, need a rep (i. e. child ) Purpose multiple claims against single defendant joined together in one action. Suing on behalf of large group of claimants allows small individuals to take on an organization i. e. cases of product liability, mass torts, workplace discrimination. Money made if successful goes towards lawyer expenses. Common issues various members must have common issues with corporation. Representative plaintiff a person to rep the class. Notification must have a plan to notify the class of people.
