Figures more agitated, more misshapen, less ideal and less canonical, more expressive. More chaotic, less of high renaissance ideal of man as dignified. 16th c- sack of rome - holy roman empire vs pope, christian wrs, destroying rome = divided christianity. Short movement in the 16th c, artists exagg/distort people and were interested in self- expression. Virtuoso painting, high skill, mastery of chiaroscuro, perspective, complex composition, but playing games with it.
