HTL 130 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Sanitary Sewer, Utility Submeter, Cooling Tower
Document Summary
Water usage is a huge significance in the lodging industry. In recent years, water and sewer costs have risen at a rate much greater than inflation. In this process impurities get picked up and then filtered in the ground. It depends at which part of the cycle water is collected to be pure or polluted. In most cases pumps will bring water to user. Water uses in hotels: guestroom (bathing, drinking, flushing, cleaning, sanitizing/cooking in restaurants, laundry operations, swimming pools, cooling/heating medium, fire suppression. Water sources: local utility, well, stream, lake, desalinization, tanker. System components: pipes, valves, pumps, filters, softeners, water heaters, storage tanks, fixtures. Pumps, wells & water pressure: concept of water pressure 1 psi, a column of water 2. 3 ft high will exert 1lb. of pressure on 1 square inch. Water distribution: city and town upfeed system, high rise downfeed system, upfeed pumping systems. Water quality concerns: potability, color, odor, taste, clearness, mineral content, acidity/alkalinity.
