As you will find out from today"s short session on g-codes, today"s lesson will not make you a g-code programmer because there is much to learn. However, if you will work directly with 3d printers, you will want to maximize your print quality and productivity. To do this you will need a certain level of understanding of g-codes. There are common g-codes and some very different or specific g-codes, like those used for machine shops machines like lathes and mills, compared to those used for 3d printers. No one knows goftheg-codes because there are manufacturer specific g-codes. Prior to computer controls on machine shop machines (routers, mills, lathes) machines were adjusted mechanically by had. The invention of cnc or computer numeric control allowed machine shops to be controlled by computers. The first cnc operated by punching paper punch tape. Before standardization of g-codes there was a wide assortment of codes. Reprap g-codes were developed for 3d printing process.
