Urban ethnic collectivities" appropriation of a certain places in the plural city. 3 modes of place-making: quotidian, calendrical, monumental. 1900s arrival of italians: inner city of toronto was full of jobs which is why italians were located near workplaces. 1930s development of a commercial and residential italian identity. 2001 new immigrant groups predominate in little italy. Still contains several italian commercial storefronts that are still present. The italian residential population is small as it diminished throughout the years and the percentage of new groups increased. Moved out to the outer-suburbs or woodbridge. It encompasses the everyday level of individual and collective behavior through which italian- Canadians make claims and seek acknowledgement of their presence neighborhoods. Like a calendar, it encompasses ritual markings of italian ethnic presence preformed in urban space. Some examples include: the good friday religious procession.
