Document Summary

The physical geography of the canadian arctic cont. Sea ice: sea ice found near polar regions, covers approx. 25 million square kilometers of earth: made from frozen ocean water. Changes to sea ice: warmer water gets, harder it is to form sea ice, when it finally forms, it"ll be thinner than usual and therefore easier to melt the next summer. Environmental: populations of polar bears are actually increasing (harder for other predators to hunt them) (maybe 30-50 years down the line they"ll be in danger) Increase in ice related deaths among inuit"s (at times of year where the ice should be stable) Sea ice impacts on mammals: lack of see ice conditions cause stress for marine mammals and affect ability to reproduce. Artic fox: stranded on sea ice, migrations routes inaccessible, hunting areas change. Caribou: migration routes inaccessible, can fall through thin ice.
