One other way to explore what neighborhoods are is to ask people to map them-a type of mental map-either as simple all encompassing maps or as composite maps based on different interaction criteria such as shopping or visiting. Companies develop sophisticated data mining tools that label consumer segments on the basis of their demographics, psychorgraphics, and location.
