Rodin - burghers of calais - created to honour people who sacrificed their lives - put at ground level, equal to people around them, individualized, not perfect, not considered academic art. Most famous student - camille claudel - female - she became his model and mistress in a 10 year relationship - she needed to branch off from his style. Her work appeared to be japanese inspired - asymmetrical. Rodins work was based off renaissance work like michelangelo. Loose movement of artists, often inspired by literary themes /music. Inspired on a walk with friends - felt nature rush around him, got overwhelmed and screamed. Bridged gap between fine and commercial art (poster art) Poster- commercial, meant to advertise - done by a fine artist, because of composition considered fine art. Art nouveau - lineal style - organic lines. One of first styles to not take inspiration from the past. People then turned to geometric lines over curvy organic lines.
