Painterly style- when there are visible brushstrokes, the result of applying paint in a less than completely controlled manner, generally without closely following carefully drawn lines. Sfumato-a painting technique with witch there are no harsh outlines, and areas blend into one another through small brushstrokes, which makes for a rather hazy, albeit more realistic, depiction of light and color.
