Document Summary

Fsn 101 | week 8: weaves pt 3. Design, texture or pattern in the weave. Warp yarns are in a criss-cross, figure 8 motion, not parallel. Weft yarns inserted through figure 8 twist. Made by using special attachment on a plain dobby loom. Used for sheer drapes, curtains, vegetable bags, thermal blankets, mosquito netting. Same technique used to make chenille yarns. Warp or weft yarn to form fuzzy pile, raised loops. Garments must be cut one way, lightness and darkness in different direction (velvet) Cannot be pressed, pile can get squished, steam instead. Has cut (corduroy, velvet) or uncut loops (towels) Can be combined with flat or pile areas to create design can also play with the design by adding colour. Loops can also be crushed or flattened. Density of the pile (most important factor) Fibre content, filament more smooth = slips out easily. Extra set of weft yarns float on surface. Cut after weaving to produce the pile.
